Ollie the Lincoln Public Library's Elf on the Shelf

This past Saturday, the Lincoln Public Library welcomed Ollie, our Elf on the Library Shelf, for a Holiday Story Time.
Ollie will be visiting LPL until our Christmas Open House on December 13.

Children are encouraged to come and find our... " Ollie Elf on the
Shelf". Our special scout Elf will report back to Santa each
night about who has been naughty and nice. The Elf hides
in a different location each day and will visit both libraries.
The Elf will return to the North Pole after the Library’s
Christmas Open House. You can also track the Elf’s
adventures on the Library’s Facebook and Twitter page.

Don’t forget the two rules:
1. No one can touch the Elf. If he is touched, he will no longer have his magical powers.
2. The Elf cannot speak or move when people are in the Library.

The Book With No Pictures PA Day Program this Friday

On Friday November 14 ( PA Day), at 2 pm, Lincoln Public Library present Mr. Bubbles, reading The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak. This wonderful book will delight children of all ages. At the Fleming Library in Beamsville.

It is free to attend and drop in!

"Mr Bubbles”, aka Jens Hansen, is one of Lincoln's best-known actors. He has performed with the Lincoln Lamplighters for the past 10 years, and has appeared with the Peninsula Players in Grimsby and the Grimsby Museum's Cemetery Tours. Before moving to Canada in 2001, Jens acted in various productions in Bermuda and the UK.

In addition to his work onstage, Jens has been reading to children for years, and has been at schools and libraries from Bermuda to Beamsville. It was at Senator Gibson Public School that Jens received the name “Mr. Bubbles” because he often read the Mr. Men series of books to the students there!

Jens has also connected with children while underwater! For five years he was a volunteer scuba diver at the Bermuda Aquarium, and performed 'dive talks' in the North Rock Exhibit, a 145,000 gallon tank with sharks, barracudas, octopus, lobsters, scorpion fish, groupers and all sorts of amazing fish. With a microphone inside his mask, he could answer questions from his audience, perform underwater acrobatics, sing silly songs and make jokes. One of his young fans called him 'Superwaterman' and the name stuck, in more ways than one –
Jens even appeared on a real Bermuda postage stamp as Superwaterman!

Ontario Public Library Week-Saturday October 25

Enjoy the National Film Board film ...
The Chocolate Farmer
“Without the land, we will cease to exist.”

In an unspoiled corner of southern Belize, cacao farmer and father Eladio Pop manually works his plantation in the tradition of his Mayan ancestors: as a steward of the land.

A tender and moving family tale, director Rohan Fernando’s lush cinematic journey intimately captures a year in the life of the Pop family as they struggle to preserve their values in a world that is suddenly and dramatically changing.

A lament for cultures lost, this timely and vital film challenges our deeply held assumptions of progress.
2010; 71 minutes; directed by Rohan Fernando
